AI Safety Türkiye#

AI Safety Türkiye (AISTR) is an independent community that brings together professionals and students who work on or are interested in the effects of AI technologies on society and humanity. Founded in 2023 by Berke Çelik and Bengüsu Özcan, AISTR serves as a networking, education, and knowledge-sharing platform in the field of AI safety.

Our Vision#

While AISTR was originally founded to create a meeting point for people in Turkey focused on long-term risks from AI, we take a holistic approach to both the short-term and long-term impacts of artificial intelligence. We believe that AI technologies will bring about a fundamental transformation in politics, economics, and society in the 21st century. Our goal is to bring together and support people who are working to ensure this transformation benefits humanity.

Our scope spans a wide range of topics — from the alignment problem to security risks, from AI’s current societal effects to existential risks. We provide a platform that encourages knowledge sharing and collaboration among professionals working on or interested in these issues.

Our Independence#

AISTR is a fully volunteer-based, independent community with no institutional affiliations. As of February 2025, we do not hold any legal entity status.
